From the author
โI knew that by its nature,ย Burn Your Belongingsย could be interpreted in many waysโthatโs what I wantedโbut the idea of it being critical of the Japanese is something that makes me very uncomfortable. I think most Americans are conformist, so I donโt really feel Iโm in a position to get on my high horse about it. What you picked up on is a feeling of distance from the rest of society: Iโm trying to show self-discovery. The comments are always from an individualโs point of view.โ
